‘Beyond’ Expectations: A Wedding Photography Workshop at Histon Manor
On March 27th, Histon Manor became the backdrop for a full day of wedding photography inspiration and education, welcoming a group of talented creatives for an immersive workshop hosted by Beyond Workshops. From 10 AM to 7 PM, the house and grounds were transformed into a working canvas for photographers exploring light, styling, and storytelling—just as they would on a real wedding day.
Beyond Workshops is owned and run by Beth and Liz—two hugely experienced wedding photographers with over a decade each in the industry. Beyond Workshops is known for its practical, hands-on approach to professional development. Their reputation in the wedding photography world is well-established and their flair in sharing their talent and generating new ideas is amazing.
The manor’s variety of indoor and outdoor spaces offered a natural flow for a full day of styled shoots. From beautiful interiors to open lawns and tucked-away garden spots, photographers were able to work across multiple lighting environments and backdrops. Our venue’s versatility meant that each setup—whether in soft natural window light or moody twilight outdoors—could tell a different visual story, echoing the real-time demands of a wedding.
Styled scenes were thoughtfully curated, with a stunning floral installation by House Of Blooms and styling by CMA Hire bringing the outdoors to life, and an elegant wedding cake by Cakes by Carol offering refined details for close-up shots. The team worked with a real couple who modelled for the day, moving between indoor rooms and external settings, allowing photographers to explore everything from posing and framing to capturing authentic emotion.
One of the advantages of hosting workshops like this at Histon Manor is the scope for creative exploration. Photographers captured a range of compositions throughout the day—from light-filled editorial portraits to duskier, more dramatic images framed by the architecture and natural elements of the grounds. As the light changed throughout the day, it provided even more texture to the images, adding atmosphere and depth. We also offer an amazing ‘green room’ our old billiard room/kitchen, that is the perfect hub for delegates.
For us, seeing our venue used not just as a backdrop but as a functioning part of the creative process was great fun and also a reminder of how adaptable and inspiring this space can be.
We’re proud to have hosted such a forward-thinking and beautifully executed event and look forward to welcoming more creative professionals who want to make the most of what our house and gardens have to offer. If you're a photographer, planner, or creative looking for a versatile venue for your next project or workshop, get in touch—we’d love to show you around.
